Tigers vs Kings, 8th Match at Cuttack, Legends League, Sep 26 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Right. That will be that from us for tonight. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. Do join us tomorrow as the Bhilwara Kings take on the Gujarat Titans. Till then, stay safe, goodbye and goodnight!
Irfan Pathan, Bhilwara Kings captain: We came pretty close. We could have done things different with the bat and ball but in hindsight, it was a great game. Me and my brother need to make sure we stay at the crunch time as well. Important to see what Harbhajan was doing as well. We wanted to play as many overs of Harbhajan and Murali as possible. If it would have worked, it would have been great but I would not change anything. Energy is there, as long as my body is moving, I will keep playing every day.
Harbhajan Singh, Manipal Tigers captain: Very good game for us. Every match is important from here onwards. The last two games did not go our way. We fought till the end and glad that it went our way. On this wicket, if you hit a length, it is not easy to hit boundaries. Dilhara is an experienced bowler. All I was worried about was he should not bowl No balls. Till the last ball is bowled, the game is not over. We have that belief that one wicket can change the course of the game. Tatenda was actually not in the side today and he showed what he can do. Jesse was brilliant. Never thought he would bat the way he did today. We did not get the start in the last two games. Today we did and that is why we got 175. Felt it was 10 runs short but the win is important.
Dilhara Fernando, Player of the Match: I am perfectly fine, no aches and pain. Really enjoyed my bowling.
Phew! That was some game. It ebbed and flowed throughout before the Tigers got over the line right at the end. Both teams left a few runs out in the middle. The Tigers' death-overs batting left a lot to be desired, as did the Kings' middle-overs approach. That said, there were enough positives in this match for both sides. The Tigers' opening partnership was simply superb, with Ryder and Taibu utilizing the field restrictions. For the Kings, the Pathan brothers very nearly tilted the game in their team's favour. Both teams still find themselves in the lower trenches of the points table but with this victory, you feel that the Tigers will back themselves to make a fist of what remains in this tournament. The Kings, meanwhile, would be hoping to get back to winning ways as soon as possible
Fine leg is in the circle
Five runs off the final ball. Bresnan, who has seven First-Class hundreds, is on strike. Super Over anyone?
length delivery outside off stump. Edwards swings like a rusty gate and gets an inside edge that bobbles towards Taibu, who can't collect cleanly and allows the single
Fidel Edwards walks out. 6 runs needed, 2 balls left. Can he produce some magic here?
Knocks him over! Full delivery that zones in on off stump. Best opens up his stance and has a massive slog across the line. But he takes his eyes off the ball at the crucial moment and loses his off stump, which has been flattened by Fernando! Kings still require 6 runs but only have 2 balls to do so now!
edged! Length delivery just outside off stump. Best swings for the hills and somehow manages to chalk it down to third man. He then runs like an Olympic sprinter and completes the second
Best is the other new batter. Can he get a boundary away?
full delivery just outside off stump. Bresnan throws his hands at it and squirts the ball off the inside edge down to short fine leg for a single. 8 runs required off 4 balls now
Bresnan is the new man in. But can he tilt this game the Kings' way?
Straight to the fielder! Back of a length delivery just outside off stump. Bishnoi swings at it and absolutely nails it. The only problem, though, is that he has hit it straight down Kaif's throat at deep mid wicket. Kings losing their way, they still require 9 runs off 5 balls
9 runs required off 6 balls and this game could go any side's way still. Bishnoi is on strike and will face Fernando
Yusuf Pathan perishes! Slower delivery dug into the track outside off stump. For the first time in a while, Pathan loses his shape and tries to drag it towards deep mid wicket. In the process, he does not get the timing and clogs it towards deep mid wicket, where the fielder holds onto a clutch catch!
slower delivery on a length on middle and leg stump. Bishnoi comes forward and knocks the ball down the ground for another single
juicy full toss outside off stump. Pathan throws his hands at it and drills it towards the sweeper at deep cover point for one more run
Power! Back of a length delivery on off stump. Pathan stands tall, gets under it enough and smokes it over long on for another maximum
much better delivery outside off stump that prevents Bishnoi from dragging it into the on side. He waits and drops it into the off side for a single
short delivery down the leg side and that is loose from Awana. Bishnoi takes a step down the track and hammers it past deep square leg for four
back of a length delivery on middle and leg stump that skids onto the batter. Bishnoi is awfully late on the pull and gloves it into the leg side for a single
Rajesh Bishnoi is the new man in
Fernando gets Irfan Pathan! Rank full toss on leg stump and Irfan ought to have deposited that one into the stands. He is a little surprised by how juicy that full toss is, though, and ends up mistiming it towards deep mid wicket, where the fielder comes in from the fence and completes the catch. Irfan keeps enquiring about the height of the full toss but that should be comfortably below the waist
Huge! In the slot on middle and leg stump and guess what happens to those, they go miles! Irfan clears his front leg and pounds it over cow corner. 23 runs required off 14 balls now
full delivery slanted across the batter outside off stump. Irfan gives it the lot but is slightly late on the stroke as the ball whizzes past the bat
Mid on is in the circle but mid off is back
back of a length delivery just outside off stump. Yusuf waits in his crease and glides the ball down to deep backward point for a single
Colossal! Slower delivery that lands right in the slot on off stump. Yusuf clears his front leg and clatters that one into oblivion over deep mid wicket
Can Fernando turn the tide his side's way?
This is getting very tight. The Kings need 36 off 18 balls, with the Pathan brothers finding their range. The Tigers need a quiet over, and they need it now!
full delivery hung outside off stump and this one just seems to slide inside the tramlines. Pathan looks to go inside out but only connects with fresh air
full toss on middle and leg stump. Irfan opens up his stance and smacks it on the bounce to long on, where Anderson goes for the catch and concedes the boundary. Looks like Anderson has injured himself too
