It's a tie and a Super Over! Ishant cracks a full delivery outside off and Warne flings himself to his left and intercepts it, they take the second run and Kamran runs across, gathers the ball and flings it to the keeper, Ishant was nowhere in the frame
RR vs KKR, 10th match at Cape Town, IPL, Apr 23 2009 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Match tied (RR won the one-over eliminator)
I'll fill you in with the rules of the Super Over. Each team gets one over to bat and the team which scores the most wins. If it's a tie then the team which scores the most sixes in the match wins.
Right Kamran Khan will bowl and Ganguly, McCullum and Gayle are the three batsmen for Kolkata. A finish like this was just what the tournament needed. Takes your mind off the rain.
Righto! Gayle and McCullum walk out. Looks like Gayle will face.
Ball 1 Kamran to Gayle - ONE - Kamran fields well off his own bowling and he deflects it to long-off
Ball 2 Kamran to McCullum - ONE - Ouch! McCullum tries to pull a full toss on waist height and he meets the ball flush on the glove
Ball 3 Kamran to Gayle - WIDE - Too wide outside off, can't chase that
Ball 3 Kamran to Gayle - FOUR - Poor length, full on the pads and he easily chips this one over mid-on
Ball 4 Kamran to Gayle - FOUR - Another poor delivery, on the pads and he hoicks him across the line and sends the ball scorching to deep square leg
Ball 5 Kamran to Gayle - FOUR - He comes over the wicket but it doesn't help, he stays at the crease, drags his backfoot back and thumps a full delivery across the line to deep midwicket
Ball 6 Kamran to Gayle - OUT - Gayle stays at the crease, bends his knee and tries to cart a full ball over the off side but Quiney at sweeper cover takes a sharp catch falling forward
So Rajasthan need 16 to win. Here;s the line-up. Mendis will bowl, Jadeja, Pathan and Mascarenhas are the three batsmen
Mendis warms up. What an entertaining evening for the crowd and it sure is a late night for all you folks back in India. Shah Rukh's on his feet, McCullum sets his field. Pathan will face Mendis. Can we have a move on please? This is taking the whole night. Lots of fielders in the deep. Jadeja's up next to bat. Four men in the ring.
Ball 1 Mendis to Pathan - SIX - Take that! He makes room and carts a flighted delivery high over long-off, 10 needed off 5
Ball 2 Mendis to Pathan - TWO - And dropped! He heaves him over the bowler's head and HOdge runs across and drops a difficult one
Ball 3 Mendis to Pathan - SIX - He stays at the crease and gives it a mighty heave ho over deep midwicket, that went rows back
The field comes in
Ball 4 Mendis to Pathan - FOUR - It's all over! Yusuf cuts out the aerial hits and settles for the sweep, he gets on his knee to a delivery pitched on middle and leg and sweeps wide of square leg
Yusuf charges off and celebrates with his team-mates who rush to congratulate him. It wasn't exactly a gamble bringing on a spinner for the Super Over but all credit must go to Pathan for his brute force. He decided to stay put at the crease and smash them. He and his brother Irfan took India to victory in Colombo recently. It was a no-brainer for Warne to send him first up. Mendis' carrom ball and other variations deserted him in this crucial moment.
Anyway let's hand it to these two teams for entertaining us tonight. Do stay with us for the presentation.
Here's McCullum: "We thought we would get across the line but Yusuf just blew us away. Sourav did incredibly well to get us back in the game. We have to rebound. Mendis is an incredible bowler but they were just too good for us. Chris Gayle was a bit too tired after a Super Over of batting ( when asked why he wasn't used)."
Warne: "The first Super Over had to happen to spice up the tournament. I thought about Yusuf and myself for that Super Over but I went with Kamran and I thought he bowled a very good over. Yusuf was fantastic with the bat. We were hungry to get out there in Durban when it rained."
Yusuf is the Man of the Match "I learnt a lot when I got out to Mendis when I batted initially. I'm happy with my bowling in the Powerplay. It's good to win here and the morale is high."
Time to cool off after this humdinger. It was a pleasure bringing this game to you. Thanks for joining us and the mails. We'll see you again tomorrow. Cheers!
If it's a tie, then the result will be decided by a Super Over. What tension! Here's Ishant
Oh boy what's happening here! Ganguly makes room and tries to slash a short and wide delivery and gets an outside edge to the keeper, Rawat asks the question but Kamran doesn't even look back, Ganguly can't believe what he's done
nudges it softly towards midwicket and they scamper hard for the second run and Ganguly makes it
Kamran fires it on the blockhole outside off and Ganguly chases it and his bat hits the pitch, Kamran reckoned there was bat on ball, no Sir, not even close
Agarkar bravely exposes his stumps to a full delivery and carves it down to deep extra cover
5 off 5, one wicket here could change things
drifts on the pads and he whips it to fine leg, Agarkar has the strike
poor start, bowls it short and really wide outside off wide and Ganguly wisely lets it go
Kamran will bowl the last over to the well-set Ganguly
shuffles and clips it to the on side
Yashpal holes out to deep extra cover and Ganguly is livid! Yashpal makes room and scoops it straight to Raut, it was a poor ball but it didn't meet the approval of Ganguly
Yashpal goes for a wild slog to the on side and Ganguly has a word with him
Yashpal uses his feet against Warne and it earns him a boundary! It's full and he crashes it past the bowler and mid-on
shuffles and nudges it to the on side
he makes room and decides to leave the ball on seeing it pitch it wide outside off, Warne's not happy with Erasmus' wide call
stays back, swivels and pulls to fine leg
16 needed off 12 balls, Kolkata should do this easily
angles it on the pads and he works it down to long-on
chips down the track and pushes it to deep extra cover
a rank full toss and Yashpal steps down and adds a lot of muscle to that chip over cover, that scorched to the boundary
he field very well off his own bowling, intercepts a drive to long-off
makes room and tries to carve him over long-off but misses it completely and nearly loses his footing
22 off 17 balls, I'll be very surprised if Kolkata don't pull this off from here
down the leg side and flicked towards fine leg
