Thirteen wickets fell on the opening day at Rotterdam, as Canada's bowlers fought back with three late strikes to partially amend the failure of their batsmen earlier in the day, who succumbed to a poor 177 against Netherlands.
Netherlands made an excellent start when Mark Jonkman bowled Geoff Barnett with the fifth delivery of the match. It was to be Jonkman's only wicket, but he finished with otherwise respectable figures of 1 for 24 from 11 tidy overs. Canada's batsmen struggled to put meaningful partnerships together, and while plenty made good starts - Rizwan Cheema and Qaiser Ali with 19, Sunil Dhaniram with 37 - no one went on to make a substantial contribution.
Peter Borren picked up 3 for 37, and he was well supported by Netherlands' spinners, Pieter Seelaar and Daan van Bunge, who also snared three apiece. Ashif Mulla was eighth man out for a tortured 28 from 90 balls as Canada folded for just 177.
Revenge was sweet, however. Wesley Barresi made 32 from 75 before he fell to Zameer Zahir, while Sandeep Jyoti picked up 2 for 12 in his five-over spell to leave Netherlands struggling on 74 for 3, still trailing by 103.
