Middle-order batter Sohaib Maqsood made two fifties in his first two ODI innings, in 2013, against a South Africa attack that included Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

That achievement was a long time coming, considering his first-class debut came nearly a decade before, when he was barely 17. Primarily an offspinner back then, he was out of cricket for three years with a back injury that also put paid to his aspirations of making a career as a bowler. On his return to first-class cricket, in 2007-08, retooled as a batter with an effective back-foot punch, he made 537 runs at 53.70. That was followed by a patch of rough form and another injury, to an ankle ligament this time, but when he made it back again, in 2010-11, he scored 951 first-class runs. The following season he made 1020, to go with 944 List A runs, which earned him his Pakistan call-up.

In international limited-overs cricket, Maqsood went off the boil around 2015, but he continued to turn out for the Multan sides in the PSL and the T20 Cup.
