Rohitha Kottahachchi played his cricket at Kalutara Vidyalaya along with former Sri Lanka fast bowler Dulip Liyanage from 1987-1991. He was a left-arm leg-spinner and left-hand bat. He pursued his cricket career with Kalutara Town Club representing them in the Sara trophy from 1988-90 and with Kalutara PCC from 1990-97 before joining Singha SC and playing in the Premier league from 1997-2000. He was the Best Player in 1997 the year he led Kalutara TC and had TM Dilshan and Malinga Bandara playing under him. He also had a two-year stint with Leicestershire county. Kottahachchi took up first-class umpiring in 2000 as is presently a member of the Premier panel. He has been twice to Malaysia to umpire in the ACC trophy tournament and the Elite Cup under 19 competition. In the recently concluded Test series against England he was a standby umpire. A graduate at Mathis and Physical Science he is employed at the Department of Census and Statistics.
