Gihan Rupasinghe

Expand Gihan Rupasinghe's initials and you have a name to rival Chaminda Vaas's, which many commentators have tried to pronounce and impress the locals. A product of Nalanda College, Rupasinghe has a reputation in the domestic circuit for being a big hitter in the middle order. He was the second-highest scorer for Tamil Union in the Premier League tournament in 2008-09 and his first-class returns that season - 945 runs at 52.50 - got the attention of the selectors. He was elevated to the A team and scored two half-centuries in the unofficial Tests against Pakistan A at home. He then made it to Sri Lanka's Twenty20 squad against the touring New Zealanders.
