Sanduni Abeywickrama, the middle-order batsman, has been approved by the event technical committee of the 2009 Women's World Cup as a replacement for allrounder Chamani Seneviratna in Sri Lanka's squad.
Seneviratna had sustained an injury during her team's first warm-up match against New South Wales at Old Kings. She has been an experienced player for Sri Lanka, representing her country in 47 ODIs. Abeywickrama, her replacement, is still relatively new to the international scene, having played five ODIs, with the 13-run defeat to West Indies in Colombo in November 2008 being her last.
Abeywickrama is the third replacement player to be called up for the tournament after Marizanne Kapp came in for Kirsty Thomson in the South African squad, and Debbie-Ann Lewis replaced Juliana Nero for West Indies.
