†AUSTRALIA v PAKISTAN 1981-82

At Sydney, January 14. Australia won by 76 runs. Sent in to bat, Australia opened with 80 from Wood and Laird, and some crisp strokeplay from Chappell and Hughes established the innings with a fourth-wicket stand of 87 in 59 minutes. Australia's 230 for five was their highest score in the 50-overs matches, and poor early batting by the Pakistanis never threatened it. Only Mansoor Akhtar, 40, and Imran Khan, 39, showed the necessary application. Chappell probably decided the match when he had Miandad lbw and in his next over induced a catch from Mansoor to mid-on.

Man of the Match: K. J. Hughes. Attendance: 27,978.
