AUSTRALIA v ENGLAND 1978-79

At Melbourne, January 24. England won by seven wickets. On a pitch of variable bounce Australia, winning the toss and batting first, were easy prey for a side with better know-how and experience of one-day cricket. Australia fell to Hendrick - the Man of the Match - and Botham for only 101 in 33.5 overs. Though Brearley was soon out, Boycott's studious care saw England comfortably home.

Australia 101 (M. Hendrick four for 25, I. T. Botham three for 16); England 102 for three (G. Boycott 39 not out). Umpires: C. E. Harvey and A. R. Crafter.
