Michael Vaughan will miss the decisive final match of England's one-day series against New Zealand, after partially dislocating his right shoulder while fielding during Saturday's 33-run victory in Auckland.
Tests at a hospital in Dunedin confirmed that Vaughan would be unable to play in tomorrow's match, but England hope he will recover in time for the opening Test at Christchurch, which starts on March 13.
"Until I had the scan I was trying to be positive and I thought that I might
have a chance of playing," admitted Vaughan. "Once I spoke to the shoulder
specialist today he gave me no chance for tomorrow.
"At least there are a few positives to come out of this because I haven't been ruled out for the rest of the tour or anything like that and I want to try
and get back playing in the next week or so.
"I hope to be playing in the first Test, but I will have to do some
rehabilitation first followed by a bit of cricket before I can start thinking
about that."
