Tweedie takes the Dolphins in front

At Goodyear Park in Bloemfontein the Eagles were bowled out for 222 - a deficit of 20 - but then let things slip at the end of the second day as Western Province Boland extended their lead to 150 with nine second-innings wickets standing. Loots Bosman fought a lone battle for the Eagles, scoring 83 in nearly four hours. Bosman was involved in two decent partnerships, one with James Henderson and one with Cliff Deacon, giving the Eagles innings some resemblance to respectability. After 20 wickets had fallen in less than two days WP Boland extended their lead, with Derrin Bassage scoring 56 and sharing an opening stand of 122 with Andrew Puttick, who ended the day with 60 not out.

Dolphins 294 (Tweedie 85*, de Bruyn 4-40) lead Titans 213 and 0 for 1 by 81 runs

A magnificent undefeated 85 from Andrew Tweedie allowed the Dolphins the luxury of an 81-run first-innings lead. The Titans, meanwhile, lost a late wicket to end the day at a miserable 0 for 1. The Dolphins had recovered well from 95 for 5, after Zander de Bruyn had ripped the heart out of the middle order, with most of the batsmen unable to convert good starts. When Tweedie came to the crease the Dolphins were 145 for 7 and looking at a first-innings deficit, but some solid batting from the tail saw them through to 294. In the two overs bowled in their second innings the Titans lost the wicket of Goolam Bodi.

Lions 175 for 9 dec (Zondeki 4-35, Hayward 3-44) lead Warriors 167 for 7 by 8 runs

At St George's Park in Port Elizabeth the Warriors and the Lions ended the second day all but level. The Warriors finished the day on 167 for 7, just eight runs behind. With Charl Langeveldt unable to bat the Lions declared their first innings at 175 for 9. That innings had belonged to Monde Zondeki, who he returned 4 for 35 in 16 overs of controlled pace bowling. Mornantau Hayward could not add to his three first-day wickets, and finished with 3 for 44. The Warriors innings never got off the ground, and they had to fight back from 71 for 5 to stay in contention. As in the Lions innings batsmen got settled and then got out at crucial stages. Tyron Henderson (29) and Zondeki (3) will resume for the Warriors tomorrow.
