Mandhana, Rodrigues, Perry commit to Hundred as England players eye moves

Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry are among the women's overseas players who have been retained for the 2022 edition of the Hundred while a handful of high-profile English players look set to leave their respective teams.

ESPNcricinfo revealed this week that leading Australian players would be involved in this year's Hundred after missing the inaugural season in 2021, and the ECB confirmed on Tuesday that Perry (Birmingham Phoenix) and Alyssa Healy (Northern Superchargers) have been retained after pulling out last year due to quarantine requirements.

Amanda-Jade Wellington, who was Southern Brave's leading wicket-taker as they reached the final last year, has also recommitted while defending champions Oval Invincibles have retained their South African trio of Dane van Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail.

Rodrigues (Superchargers) and Mandhana (Brave) are the two Indian internationals to have been retained while Sophie Devine (Phoenix), Lizelle Lee (Manchester Originals), Laura Wolvaardt (Superchargers) and Hayley Matthews (Welsh Fire) complete the list of 12 overseas players to have signed up in the women's competition so far.

The Commonwealth Games' inaugural women's T20 competition is due to take place at Edgbaston from July 29-August 7 and overseas players will stay in the country before the start of the Hundred on August 11.

The majority of England players have been retained by their respective teams but a handful are set to move for 2022, with Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Winfield-Hill and Fran Wilson (who retired from international cricket last year) all released and free to negotiate with other coaches and general managers.

Phoebe Graham, Alex Hartley, Georgia Adams, Sarah Bryce and Bryony Smith are among the domestic players who could join new teams after failing to agree retentions within the given window.

Teams can now offer contracts to players as part of an open-market system, and ESPNcricinfo understands that Meg Lanning and Tahlia McGrath are among the Australians who have committed to play. The ECB will announce further signings on March 30, the date of the men's draft.

As in the men's competition, each women's team will be able to sign a fourth overseas player in their squad during a wildcard draft in June, though will only be able to field three in their playing XI in any given match.
