Heath Streak, the former Zimbabwe captain, has expressed an interest in continuing his cricket career, playing in either Durban or Johannesburg. Streak, who was fired by the Zimbabwe Cricket Union along with 14 other rebel cricketers, was originally planning to play for New South Wales after spending the winter with Warwickshire.
However, he decided to change plans after Nadine, his wife, became pregnant, reported News24.com. Streak then decided he would rather play in South Africa so that he could be close to his wife, who is in Bulawayo. Streak was hoping to play for either Natal or Gauteng.
But the Gauteng Cricket Board clarified that it had not entered into any discussions with Streak. A statement issued by the board said: "In an article published today on the Supersport Super Cricket website, it stated that the former Zimbabwean captain, Heath Streak would be joining either the Highveld Lions or KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins for the coming season. The Highveld Lions have at no stage entered into discussions with Heath Streak and at this point have no intention of doing so."
The leaves Streak with an opportunity to pursue Natal, although they will have to gain permission from the UCB's National Cricket Committee, who are not keen for franchises signing overseas players.
