Rain washed out the final day of India A's tour match against Surrey at The Oval, in which they had been well poised after a dominant batting display. Surrey's second-string team had been given a batting lesson to remember on the second day, as Sridharan Sriram, Gautam Gambhir and Ambati Rayudu all scored magnificent centuries to set up a chance of an innings victory.
India had resumed on the second day on 235 for 2, and it took Sriram - on 92 overnight - no time at all to reach three figures. His hundred came from 126 balls with 17 fours, but he eventually fell to England's young allrounder Rikki Clarke, who was the pick of an inexperienced attack with 2 for 36 from 18 overs.
Clarke's other victim was Vijay Bharadwaj, who was the only batting failure of the day, caught by Nadeem Shahid for 7. But that was as good as it got for Surrey, who were then subjected to a ferocious onslaught from Rayudu, who needed just 103 balls for his 101, with 15 fours and two sixes.
Surrey were left to bat out a tricky 12 overs before the close, and they did well to reach 39 for 0. They would have needed to show similar resolve to avoid defeat, but the elements came to their rescue instead.
