At Cape Town, April 19, 2009 (floodlit). Deccan Chargers won by eight wickets. Toss: Kolkata
Knight Riders. Kolkata Knight Riders 101 (19.4 overs) (B. J. Hodge 31; R. P. Singh 4-22); Deccan
Chargers 104-2 (13.1 overs) (H. H. Gibbs 43*, R. G. Sharma 36*). Deccan Chargers 2 pts. Man of
the Match: R. P. Singh.
Having shelved their coach John Buchanan's original idea of having multiple captains - one each
for batting, bowling and fielding - Kolkata seemed still to be in some disarray, especially after their
sole captain turned out to be Brendon McCullum rather than Kolkata hero Sourav Ganguly. The
batsmen failed to come to grips with the pace and swing of Fidel Edwards (4-1-6-0) and R. P.
Singh, and only just reached three figures.
