At Cape Town, April 18, 2009. Mumbai Indians won by 19 runs. Toss: Chennai Super Kings. Mumbai Indians 165-7 (20 overs) (S. R. Tendulkar 59*, A. M. Nayar 35); Chennai Super Kings 146-7 (20 overs) (M. L. Hayden 44, M. S. Dhoni 36; S. L. Malinga 3-15). Mumbai Indians 2 pts. Man of the Match: S. R. Tendulkar.
Tendulkar was not distracted either by the drizzle or by a stray dog that eluded capture for 11 minutes: he batted through the innings, hitting seven fours, and was helped by Abhishek Nayar's dazzling 14-ball assault, which included three sixes. Despite Hayden's solid start, Chennai were rarely up with the rate, even before the hostile Malinga returned to dismiss Badrinath (second ball) and Dhoni.
