At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, August 7, 2005 (day/night). India won by seven runs. India 5 pts, West Indies 1 pt. Toss: India.
The victory which carried India into the final was based on a partnership of 165 from 178 balls between Yuvraj and Kaif, who revitalised the innings after three early wickets and the retirement of Ganguly, hit on the forearm by Daren Powell. Yuvraj completed his third one-day century while hobbling with cramp, but then Dhoni pounded 28 off 13 balls. West Indies, without the ailing Chanderpaul, seemed destined for heavy defeat at 112 for six, but were revived by a stirring seventh-wicket stand of 83. Even after he lost his partner, Morton, Ramdin kept pressing for an unlikely victory with some inventive strokeplay. Twelve were needed from the final over, but Nehra - who had earlier been smacked for 17 in one over by Smith - conceded only four.
Man of the Match: Yuvraj Singh.
