India v Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 3rd day

18-Nov-2009
For the first 10 overs, India appeared satisfied to be on the backfoot, as the spinners failed to pick up any wickets. A timely Sri Lankan wicket may have given the hosts the impetus they needed.
The only blotch on Mahela Jayawardene's morning came when Amit Mishra drew an edge from him, but the ball died on Rahul Dravid at slip. That was off the second ball of the 74th over and it was good as it got for India as Jayawardene from 43 then, finished on 204.
If India believed they had some chance in the match with the wickets of Thilan Samaraweera and Angelo Mathews before lunch, they were batted out of contention by the two Jayawardenes - Mahela and Prasanna - who put on an unbeaten stand of 216 for the sixth wicket.
