India v Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 1st day

17-Nov-2009
In the seventh over of the day, debutant Chanaka Welegedara's double blows had India by the jugular. With the first ball he trapped Virender Sehwag leg before, and with the fourth went through Sachin Tendulkar's defences.
Yuvraj Singh and Rahul Dravid's 125-run stand for the fifth-wicket went a long way in asserting India's ascendancy. With the hosts tottering at 32 for 4, the revival before tea was much needed. Yuvraj reached his fifty as Dravid closed in on his hundred.
If the previous partnership was crucial, Dravid combined well with MS Dhoni to put on 224 for the sixth wicket to put India in pole position. Both centurions looked on course for more, but Dhoni departed on 110 as Dravid took them to stumps, unbeaten on 177.
