The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that Hero Honda is adding its support to the inaugural Johnnie Walker Super Series in Australia this October, after signing as an Official Partner for the event.
Hero Honda, the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, is an existing ICC Official Global Partner and has previously supported tournaments including the ICC Cricket World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy. The company is also an active promoter of cricket and cricketers in India, with national cricketing icons Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif as its brand ambassadors.
Welcoming the announcement, ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed said the company's involvement demonstrated the status of the tournament as a major attraction for commercial partners: "Hero Honda is a strong supporter of international cricket and it is extremely pleasing that they will now join the ICC as it stages this exciting tournament. The Johnnie Walker Super Series is a brand new concept, so it is very encouraging that it has been successful in attracting strong support from commercial partners and broadcasters," said Mr. Speed.
Mr. Pawan Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Honda Motors Ltd. said, "Thanks to our more than a decade-long association with cricket, Hero Honda has almost become synonymous with the game today. Our association with the Johnnie Walker Super Series is a natural extension of this long-term commitment to promote cricket in India and internationally. I am sure the Super Series will provide exciting cricket for millions of cricket lovers across the world."
The Johnnie Walker Super Series will see world champion team Australia take on specially selected ICC World XI teams in three official One Day Internationals at Melbourne's Telstra Dome on 5, 7 and 9 October, followed by a six-day Super Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from 14 to 19 October.
