Graveney to apply for full-time role

David Graveney says there are "no major dramas" about reapplying for the England selector position which the ECB has readvertised. The full-time role and two part-time positions were announced in the wake of the Schofield Report following England's Ashes disaster.

"The question of reapplying probably hasn't happened in cricket all that much but if you're in something like the civil service it certainly does," he told Sky Sports News. "There are no major dramas and it's always been an honour to do the job. If I'm considered a suitable candidate I'll put my name into the hat."

The main selector will travel with the team home and abroad as well as being responsible for central contracts and all national squads from Under-19 level upwards. The closing date for applications is December 18 and interviews are due to start from January 7.

Graveney has held the head role for 10 years and currently has Geoff Miller as his No. 2. Hugh Morris, the new managing director of England cricket, is leading the recruitment process and said Graveney understands the position.

Whoever gets the role will undertake it on a full-time basis. Graveney currently flies in and out of England tours but, if he secures the role as the new chairman of selectors, he will be with the squad full time.
