Feeling like a star

Feeling like a star  •  UB

Gee, the last two days have been hectic. What with the press conference and the video shoot, I did not get the time to visit my dear diary. So now it's time for updates.
The press conference was hectic. I have never seen such a mad rush for cheerleaders ever, even in America. There was pandemonium all around. We were "paparazzied" during our first sequence, with some 100 photojournalists clicking away to glory as we tried to enact the routine in sync with the song, which was tough given that the lyrics were in Hindi and it took time for us to understand it. But I must confess, it felt kinda good to have a thousand mikes thrust forward for quotes and soundbytes. By evening we were splashed all across the news channels. Wish my mum could see it. She would be so proud and happy. God, I feel like a star already. You can't really blame a woman for feeling a bit vain after seeing her pictures all over front pages in newspapers.
But the clincher was our appearance on MG Road. There we were, round about noon, right in the middle of one of Bangalore's busiest thoroughfares, doing our lifts and tricks right on the road. And sure enough, there were the paparazzi, and in minutes we were live on national television. I must confess, I have never done something like this in America. But it felt good. Felt good to reach out to the people on the streets, to get their best wishes, to perform in front of them in a moment of mad impulse. We had taken the casual onlooker completely by surprise, because nobody expected that we would perform right on the streets of Bangalore.
I am definitely starting to dig this cheerleading thing in India. It does a lot to add to a woman's vanity. Two days ago we were complete strangers in a strange land. Today we are The Mischief Gals, known all over the nation. Just goes to show that cricket is like a religion in India.
So the gig's over and our India journey is almost coming to an end. But these are a few days I will never forget in my life. Starry-eyed and with bleary feet we are all set to hit the Wanderers. South Africa, here we come.
