Scorecard
England's women continued their dominance of New Zealand on the second day of the one-off Test at Scarborough. After a strong allround bowling performance restricted New Zealand to just 215 yesterday, Charlotte Edwards and Laura Newton, England's openers, both hit centuries, but New Zealand fought back to restrict England's first-innings lead to just 70.
Newton dominated an opening stand of 163, smashing 14 fours and a six in her 103, before she was caught behind by Rebecca Rolls off Aimee Mason's offspin. Rosalie Birch and Clare Connor, England's captain, fell in quick succession for single figures (189 for 3), but Lydia Greenway (12) and Arran Brindle (10) temporarily halted New Zealand's fightback. But both were unable to capitalise on their starts, and Louise Milliken and Rebecca Steele picked up two wickets apiece to skittle England's lower order.
New Zealand's women will have a lot to do tomorrow if they are going to take control of this match, but their good showing in the field today has gone some way towards healing the wounds of their 3-2 loss in the one-day series.
