Chanderpaul injury causes Windies concern

West Indies, who only need to draw the final Test in Trinidad to take the series against England, face an anxious wait to see how Shivnarine Chanderpaul pulls up after straining a groin muscle in the field on the opening day

West Indies, who only need to draw the final Test in Trinidad to take the series against England, face an anxious wait to see how Shivnarine Chanderpaul pulls up after straining a groin muscle in the field on the opening day.
Chanderpaul limped off after trying to prevent the single that brought up Andrew Strauss's century. It appeared to happen as he landed on the ground and he didn't come back out for the remainder of the day. His place was taken by Dwayne Bravo, who was ruled out of this series following ankle surgery but is slowly making his way back to fitness.
"At this point, he has strained a groin muscle, and we won't know the full extent of the injury until he has had the full treatment after play, and a night's rest on it," John Dyson said.
Although Chanderpaul hasn't registered a hundred in this series he has still been a thorn in England's side with important contributions in Antigua and Barbados. It would be a blow if he wasn't fully fit to bat, although there is always the option of him using a runner.
West Indies also have some breathing space after picking the extra batsman for this match. They handed a debut to Lendl Simmons who struck 282 for West Indies A against England at the beginning of the tour.
