Chris Cairns, New Zealand's star allrounder, believes his side can lift the Champions Trophy again, by building on their one-day success in England this summer. However, Cairns admits that New Zealand, who won the one-day NatWest Series in England in July, must be on top form from the outset, as they have to overhaul Australia to progress from their group.
"New Zealand can win the Trophy, most definitely," Cairns told BBC Sport. "We need to be right on our game because, against Australia, nothing but the best will do."
New Zealand won the inaugural Champions Trophy in 2000, and face the rank outsiders USA in their first group game on the first day of the tournament (Sept 10). But the big clash of the pool takes place against Australia, who are seeking to add the trophy to their World Cup honours, at The Oval six days later.
Cairns summed up: "I'm refreshed and can't wait to take on the old enemies in green and gold."
