The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed Brendan McClements as the Tournament Director for the Johnnie Walker Super Series, which will see Australia take on an ICC World XI in both Test and ODI cricket in Australia this October.
ICC Chief Executive, Malcolm Speed, said that the creation of this role and the appointment of Mr McClements would help ensure the successful staging of the event.
"The Johnnie Walker Super Series is a new event on the international calendar and creates a number of demands on both the ICC as the rights owner and on Cricket Australia as the event host, particularly as it sits outside our existing commercial agreement with the Global Cricket Corporation.
"The appointment of Mr McClements to this role reflects the ICC's commitment to ensuring that the resources and expertise required to make this event a successful one are in place."
McClements is the ICC's General Manager, Corporate Affairs, and has now transferred to Australia to take up the post of Tournament Director in the lead up to the event. He said he was looking forward to working with Cricket Australia to help deliver the Johnnie Walker Super Series.
"This Johnnie Walker Super Series will be a terrific addition to the cricket calendar. I am looking forward to being able to work with the team at Cricket Australia and the ICC's own Events team to deliver an outstanding cricket tournament," said Mr McClements
