The Bahamas Cricket Association National XI have qualified for the International Cricket Council's Americas Region Associates Tournament to be held in Argentina in March 2002. In the recent Americas Affiliates Tournament held in Jamaica the Bahamas finished second to the Cayman Islands to qualify.
The Bahamas Cricket Association Under 15 team played in an ICC sponsored Under 15 competition in the Cayman Islands and although losing all their matches against physically bigger the experience was tremendous for the very young team most who will still be eligible next year
The Police Cricket Club again won the BCA League Championship for the third year in succession with Paradise Cricket Club in runners up position followed by Superstars CC, Commonwealth CC and in last position St Agnes CC who were unable to fulfill their fixtures.
The Archdeacon William Thompson Competition is currently being played and will be decided after the round-robin stages on the weekend of the 20/21st October. The Caricom Tournament still has to played which is an annual festival between teams from the Islands of Bahamian, English, Jamaican and Rest of Caribbean nationals.
The main improvement during the season was the appointment of the Youth Cricket Development Officer John Mayers on a part-time basis paid for by the Association. John has shown great enthusiasm for the job under difficult circumstances in endeavouring to introduce cricket to a large number of young players.
Cricket is not played in the schools and John has been trying to get it introduced as part of the curriculum. He also managed the Under 15 team to the Cayman Islands and was coach to the senior team in Jamaica. He was also invited to manage/coach the Rest of the Americas Under 19 team in a competition in Bermuda in August.
The Pavilion Restaurant/Bar continues to be well supported thanks to the hard efforts of Connie and Chris Robertson who look after the catering etc. on behalf of the Association.
