Australia v Sri Lanka 1984-85

At Sydney, January 23. Australia won by three wickes. With Sri lanka still in contention to reach the final, Australia were keen to avoid another embarassment, and they started well enough after inserting Sri Lanka with Wessels taking two quick wickets. From 55 for four, however, Mendis and Aravinda de Silva added a splendid 139, leaving their side with what looked a useful score, especially when Wood and Smith were out early. But Sri Lanka's bowling fell away rather badly and in the end Wessels, Border and Jones comfortably achieved the required run-rate.
