At Karachi, July 2, 2008 (day/night). Pakistan won by eight wickets. Pakistan 2 pts. Toss: India.
One-day international debut: Saeed Ajmal.
India looked favourites after a rousing start - Gambhir fell in the 11th over with 88 on the board
- and a rollicking finish (Irfan Pathan, in his first match of the tournament, clubbed 38 from 25
balls after Dhoni and Rohit Sharma put on 112), but Pakistan sailed past an imposing target with
something to spare, keeping their slim hopes of making the final alive. Younis Khan anchored the
chase with a run-a-ball century (his fifth in one-day internationals), and once slog-swept Chawla
over the stand at midwicket. Misbah-ul-Haq, captaining in the absence of Shoaib Malik (suffering
from dehydration), helped Younis put on 144 in 20 overs to take Pakistan over the line.
Man of the Match: Younis Khan.
