Toronto, Canada - Rain washed out a tight and absorbing struggle between
Argentina and the Cayman Islands today, with the islanders being declared
winners due to superior run rate. General consensus is that that the Caymans are
a better team than at least half of the Associate member countries, even if they
are only an Affiliate country at present. The Caribbean influence on their
cricket was evident.
Argentina put in a much improved performance after their disappointing showing
against Bermuda, and the signs are still positive, as is the mood in the camp.
Two superb bowling spells from Tunon (10-0-32-3) and Pereyra
(10-1-22-1) (probably one of the best limited overs bowling spells I have ever
seen anywhere), plus another outstanding fielding display, helped restrict the
islanders to 206 for 9 in their 50 overs. In reply, Argentina were on 78 for 4
after 26 overs when a storm, which lasted for about 15 minutes, washed out play
for the day. Matias Paterlini made a classic 37, possibly the best innings I
have seen from him. The rain was a pity, but Argentina took much credit and
satisfaction out of the game ahead of tomorrows encounter with Canada.
