All the right moves

Sir Garry Sobers has always been my hero.

He was really god-gifted. Physically, he had all the attributes: athleticism, suppleness, speed and strength. As a player, he could bowl all styles, field in every position, and bat on any wicket, in every condition, and at any number. And he did all this with elegance and grace.

You couldn't take your eyes off him; he was always a delight to watch. Even bowling to him and being punished was a delight.

It was a great thrill and honour when I became his team-mate in the World XI captained by him. The relationship that developed during that tour has lasted till today. We still see each other, have a drink together and share common feelings for the game.

Did he influence me? Well, he was too far ahead to have had any influence on me!
