Chris Harris, the Hyderabad Heroes captain, is not worried by the ICL's decision to hold payments to players and cancel the World Series, scheduled for March, in the face of growing recession in the global markets. Harris said the itinerary has been tweaked before and payments from India were always slow.
"There have been changes to it [ICL tournaments] in the past and generally dates have changed a number of times," Harris told New Zealand's Sunday News. "All the tournaments have gone ahead as planned.
"To be honest, I'm not concerned at all because the [ICL] payments have always arrived until this point in time."
According to reports, ICL is undertaking a major review of its existing contracts and it is understood that the performances of 15-16 from a pool of 70 foreign players are under the scanner. Players who fail to perform will either be released or asked to sign up again for a lesser fee.
But Harris said players had been informed the payments would come through in a week. "They've never not paid us before." The next edition of World Series is scheduled for October.
