Adam Gilchrist's contribution to Deccan Chargers' third straight win took Ian Chappell to the top of the Star Wars table for the first time since the IPL began. Chappell moved into the lead with the 182 trump points Gilchrist gave him and now has 2158.
Early in the competition Ian warned Sambit Bal that he was right there in his rear-view mirror. Well, after five straight days at the top, it's now Sambit who finds himself looking into Ian's rear-view mirror.
Sambit's decision to make Rohit Sharma trump didn't pay off as the Deccan batsman only got him three points. With rain playing spoilsport in Cape Town there was no second match, meaning Sambit's trump favourite, Chris Gayle, never came into the equation.
Ian was backing his fellow Australians on Anzac Day - he had Matthew Hayden as trump player for the second match - but didn't get to see if the aggressive opener could extend his fine run in the second season of the IPL. "I was hoping to make a killing with my two Australian trumps but it didn't quite work out," says Ian. "Still they helped me get my nose in front - mind you, Sambit was probably dizzy from being at the top for so long." Ian leads Sambit by 185 points.
David Lloyd and Sanjay Manjrekar didn't make much progress.
