South Africa's bowling coach Vincent Barnes will be working with Deccan Chargers for the remainder of this season's IPL. Barnes was approached by Deccan coach Darren Lehmann who wanted him to help the bowlers in the team.
"Darren Lehmann asked me to join the team and help the boys and I was only glad to help," Barnes was quoted as saying by the Deccan Chargers official website.
Barnes worked with Harmeet Singh, RP Singh and Shoaib Maqsusi and advised them about the importance of using the width of the crease. "I am mainly working with the fringe bowlers. A few of them had problems with over-stepping. We worked on it and things are getting better," Barnes said.
"I was impressed by the number of questions they asked. They are willing to learn and that is a positive sign. They were eager in practice and I spoke to them on areas that concern bowling at the death. It was a fruitful session."
Deccan captain Adam Gilchrist also expressed his delight over Barnes' addition. "Barnes has been enjoying a senior role in the South African team. He brings with him a lot of experience and I am sure the boys will benefit from it," Gilchrist said.
Deccan scripted a remarkable turnaround in this season's tournament after finishing last in 2008. With seven wins from twelve matches they are currently third on the points table and are among the frontrunners for a semi-final spot.
