Kings XI Punjab have called up Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara as an emergency replacement for the injured Australian batsman Shaun Marsh for the remainder of the IPL.
"We are trying to get him here (to South Africa) at the earliest as a replacement for Marsh," Col Aravinder Singh, the franchise's spokesperson, told Cricinfo.
Marsh was the overall leading run-scorer in last year's IPL and was instrumental in taking the team to the semi-finals. He injured his left hamstring during the first ODI against Pakistan in Dubai last week and had to fly back home. It was the same hamstring which kept him out of the recent tour of South Africa.
The IPL rules allow a player to be replaced mid-way through the tournament if he is ruled out for the whole series.
Kulasekara rose to No.1 in the ICC bowler rankings in March after an impressive 12 months since returning to the team in April 2008. He took 47 wickets at 20.97 in 29 matches, with a strike-rate of 28.00 and an economy rate of 4.45.
