LG Electronics has extended its association with international cricket by becoming an Official Partner of October's Johnnie Walker Super Series, which will see Australia take up the challenge posed to its domestic supremacy by ICC World XI Test and One Day International teams.
LG is already a major supporter of the international game as one of the ICC's six International Sponsors of tournaments such as the ICC Cricket World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy, and as exclusive sponsor of the LG Test and One Day International team and player rankings.
The rankings have played an important part in the development of the Super Series concept, providing a system by which the top teams in the world can be officially measured. By topping both the Test and ODI LG rankings tables, Australia earned the right to play the ICC World XI sides in both forms of the game. Furthermore, the LG player rankings are being used by the Johnnie Walker selectors to help them identify the best combinations of players to make up the ICC World XI teams.
ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed welcomed LG's latest commitment, saying that the company was an outstanding supporter of the international game: "LG has recognised the enormous popularity and global reach of cricket and its support of ICC tournaments and initiatives has been terrific. That support has now been extended to include the Johnnie Walker Super Series, which will provide another exciting opportunity to be associated with cricket at its very best and most entertaining."
Elated at extending LG's association with international cricket and becoming an Official Partner of the Johnnie Walker Super Series, Mr. Salil Kapoor, Head Marketing Services and Brand said: "We are proud to be associated with ICC and the popularity and global reach the game of cricket upholds. I am sure this association will see similar success as that of our earlier endeavors and we look forward to a long innings with ICC."
LG is one of five Official Partners for the event, along with Emirates Airline, Hero Honda, ABN AMRO and MasterCard.
LG Electronics is one of the world's most successful mobile communications and digital appliance, display and media companies, employing more than 66,000 people around the world. It aims to become one of the top three electronics, information and telecommunications firms in the world by 2010, with cricket one of its chosen routes to promote its brand messages.
The Johnnie Walker Super Series will see world champion team Australia take on specially selected ICC World XI teams in three official One Day Internationals at Melbourne's Telstra Dome on 5, 7 and 9 October, followed by a six-day Super Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from 14 to 19 October.
