Anthony McGrath has signed a new three-year contract which will keep him at Yorkshire until the end of the 2011 season.
"I'm delighted to stay at the club for the next three years," McGrath told the county's website. "I have enjoyed a fantastic career here so far and I think the next three years will be an exciting time for the club and for me, especially in my new role as captain".
Stewart Regan, Yorkshire's chief executive, added: "It's great news that one of our most senior players and captain has chosen to commit himself to the club for another three years. Under Anthony's leadership I'm confident that 2009 will be a successful year for the team and the Yorkshire County Cricket Club".
McGrath, 33, has played 198 first-class games, scoring 11,475 runs since 1995. He also played four Tests and 14 ODIs for England between 2003 and 2004. He nearly turned his back on Yorkshire in 2006, refusing the captaincy and a three-year contract, but the arrival of Darren Gough as captain changed things.
