Jagmohan Dalmiya, the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), filed an appeal before the Kolkata High Court challenging a city court order that rejected his application seeking fresh copies of documents and a time extension to reply to the present board management over allegations of misappropriation of funds.
Dalmiya, in his appeal, said that the copies of bank documents were illegible and requested that the court direct the BCCI management for supplying fresh copies.
PK Sarkar, Kolkata's civil court chief judge, had last week refused to accept Dalmiya's contention that copies of the documents were illegible. He observed that the BCCI had in an affidavit stated that its disciplinary proceedings against Dalmiya would not be based on these documents.
Dalmiya had moved the city court challenging the BCCI's summons for appearing before its disciplinary committee headed by Sharad Pawar, the current president. On August 22, the city court had directed the BCCI to supply nearly 2000 documents to Dalmiya, as sought by him, before August 29 for inspection in connection with the Pakistan-India-Sri Lanka Committee (PILCOM) accounts. The PILCOM had overseen the conduct of the1996 World Cup held in the subcontinent.
Dalmiya's appeal was filed before the high court bench of Justice Pranab Deb and is likely to be taken up for hearing tomorrow.
