West Indies will receive a thorough workout for the first Test when they face a Queensland side containing eight internationals at Allan Border Field from Thursday. The Bulls named their side today with Matthew Hayden and Shane Watson given the chance of an early look at their potential Test opponents in a line-up that also included Andrew Symonds and James Hopes.
The first-Test begins on November 3 and West Indies will have a strong idea of their batting form after facing a pace attack of Andy Bichel, Michael Kasprowicz, Watson and Mitchell Johnson. Queensland have also picked the slow men Ryan Le Loux and Chris Simpson and plan to approach their opponents in the hope of fielding 12 players during the four-day match.
Cricket Australia has pushed forward the start time of the Pura Cup clash between New South Wales and South Australia at the SCG this week to 10.30am. The Blues won the ING Cup encounter yesterday but both sides were concerned about fading light affecting the final session of the first-class match. Daylight saving starts in New South Wales on October 30 so a Cricket Australia spokesman said no further changes would be required.
Queensland squad Jimmy Maher (capt), Matthew Hayden, Martin Love, Shane Watson, Andrew Symonds, James Hopes, Chris Hartley (wk), Chris Simpson, Andrew Bichel, Ryan Le Loux, Mitchell Johnson, Michael Kasprowicz.
