England's chairman of selectors David Graveney believes that series wins in Pakistan and India will mean the team are the best in the world.
England, currently ranked behind only Australia in the Test table, head to Pakistan this week and tour India in February. "We are halfway there, having beaten Australia and won the Ashes," Graveney told the Morning Post in Hong Kong, where he was watching the Hong Kong Sixes. "But to become the world's top team we have to beat Pakistan and India. England are up there. The mark of a good team is to beat Australia, anywhere, and also to win on the subcontinent."
Although England won in Pakistan when they last toured five years ago, they have failed to win a series in India since 1984-85. They play three Tests against both sides this winter.
