Maharoof pulled up for excessive appealing

Farveez Maharoof, the Sri Lankan allrounder, has been severely reprimanded for excessive appealing during Sri Lanka's 50 run win against West Indies in the third ODI of the Indian Oil Cup at Dambulla on August 2.

Maharoof, the man of the match with outstanding figures of 3 for 9 of his ten overs which included five maidens, was reported by Simon Taufel, Asoka De Silva and Peter Manuel, the match officials. According to an ICC Media Release, Mike Procter, the ICC Match Referee, found Maharoof guilty for breaching Clause 1.5 of the ICC's Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials - excessive appealing during the course of play in a match, after a hearing at which Marvan Atapattu, the Sri Lankan captain, and Michael Tissera, the team manager, were present.

Maharoof celebrated one of his wickets without appealing and before the umpire had made a decision, an offence which falls under the classification of excessive appealing. Ashish Nehra, the Indian medium-pacer, was also reprimanded for a similar offence during the second match of the Indian Oil Cup against West Indies at Dambulla on July 31.
